My meeting with my head supervisor went well last week, so I have a firm topic, hurrah! I also have a to-do list a mile long of things I need to have done before my next supervisor meeting at the end of the month. Eep. Sue is quite high up in the uni system and therefore really on top of all the red-tape and timelines side of PhDs, which will be invaluable, I'm sure. Right now, I'm focussing on some secondary source reading, alongside scary things like plotting out my novel. The critical element, I'm fiiiine with. The novel is terrifying.

Not a lot of other news. I have been low-grade sick for a while and it seems to finally be going a little further than "oh I feel unwell" and into "hi I have a blocked nose and sinus headache". In another three or so weeks it might actually develop into a cold. Not the flu, though, because I had my flu injection today!*

Things we have been watching lately: iZombie s1 and Twin Peaks. The latter is a re-watch for me, ready for the new season that's about to come out, and E is being very magnanimous in putting up with its slow reveal and peculiarity. I've also been re-watching all the Carry On films. They are silly and relaxing and that is what my exhausted brain needs right now.

* I realise that this isn't actually how it works and that, knowing my luck, I will get a strain of the flu that the jab doesn't cover me for.

Hooray for the topic! Is the novel daunting for just, you know, the thought of writing so much, or is even plotting it out terrifying? I personally found it less scary to write my novel once I had a clear vision with it plotted out, even if I didn't necessarily write it all in the right order.

I actually think fooling yourself into thinking each chapter is a short story is reasonable. That's not exactly what I did, but close to it. There were several short pieces that I wrote for Idol that ended up in the book. Most of them were then expanded upon and edited. But having that base definitely helped me. And it's not too far from what you'd want to do with a chapter anyway. Chapters are separated as they are because they're like different events that take place in the overall story arc.

I believe in you. You'll be able to do it. :)

A firm topic. Awesome.

And good luck with the novel and keeping away the flu.

How are you finding iZombie? It's one of the shows I keep meaning to watch.
